Can you get Coronavirus from a package delivered from China?
The pneumonia outbreak caused by novel coronavirus in China has received a huge amount of attention in the world. The overseas e-commerce industry has also been severely affected. Many overseas buyers, worried about being infected by the virus, have rejected the packages shipped from China. While many others have sent e-mails asking the sellers whether their goods are affected by the pneumonia virus or if it's safe to receive packages from China. Can you get Novel Coronavirus from receiving a package from China? The answer is No.
It's Safe Receiving a Package from China

The transmission of novel coronavirus requires such media as droplet, fecal-oral and contact. Even if your overseas package is sent by an infected person, the package itself is not a transmission medium, not to mention the virus just cannot survive in the long-distance shipment;

Novel coronaviruses can only survive in certain conditions and they will die soon once leaving the hosts, such as human body. These viruses generally survive in a cold and humid environment around 0℃, and they will be killed at room temperature around 20℃. Even if the overseas e-commerce package or the goods packed in are infected, the novel coronavirus leaving the host will not survive in the customs clearance and shipment.

There is no evidence to support the transmission of the novel coronavirus via packages shipped from China. 4238038 U.S. health officials said on January 27 that there is no evidence to support the transmission of the new coronavirus through imported goods. "In general, because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from products or packaging that are shipped over a period of days or weeks at ambient temperatures," Nancy Messonnier, director of the Center for Disease Control's Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said in a Monday press briefing. Even in the worse case scenario - say, a sneezing person packaged your $700 used Apple iPhone 11, bought on Amazon and shipped to your home by air via United Parcel Service or FedEx - isn't dangerous. "At present, we cannot fully assess the risk of different products shipped from China under different conditions, but coronaviruses are spread most often by respiratory droplets," said Messonnier. "There is no evidence to support transmissibility and there are no cases in the U.S. from imported goods." It typically takes at least three days for a package to get from China to California, according to UPS and FedEx. So the virus wouldn't be able to survive long enough to get you sick.
What about animals or animal products imported from China? The CDC does not have any evidence to suggest they pose a risk - but the shipment of animals and animal products into the U.S. is much more strictly regulated than other trade, such as electronics.
